Africa Day 2016
in Abidjan (CI) on Monday 21st November 2016.

The EIB is organising its second Africa Day, this time in partnership with the African Development Bank, and taking place at their headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on Monday 21st November. This year, we will be exploring the themes that are vital for Africa to fulfil its potential, by creating good jobs for young people across a range of sectors, and the crucial role to be played by innovation and sustainable development. This is where financing can have the greatest impact.

  • Speakers:

Confirmed speakers of the conference include Daniel Kablan Duncan, Prime Minister, Côte d’Ivoire; Akinwumi Ayodeji Adesina, President, African Development Bank (AfDB); Werner Hoyer, President, European Investment Bank (EIB); we will also be welcoming prominent academics and leading representatives of the African business and banking world.

  • Programme outline:

Plenary sessions and break-out sessions will focus on the twin challenge of youth employment and innovation.

  • Who should attend: 

The AfDB-EIB Africa Day is an agenda-setting event for those who wish to take part in the debate on how to enable youth employment, innovation and inclusive growth across the African economies. It is a must-attend for those who wish to make a contribution to investing in Africa’s tomorrow. Attending the conference will be senior delegates from international institutions, governmental institutions and agencies, entrepreneurs, academics, as well as representatives of the private sector and civil society leaders. We particularly encourage delegates from the following sectors to attend: Research & Development, education, banking, agribusiness, energy, ICT and manufacturing.

The working languages of the conference will be English and French with simultaneous translation throughout all sessions.

On the morning of Tuesday 22 November, both organising institutions AfDB and EIB will bring together a number of experts to discuss individual projects and to provide hands-on advice for your projects related to the following sectors :

These meetings will take place at the Sofitel Hotel. Registrations for these meetings will be taken during conference accreditation on 21 November.
